This week, I watched Dave Fleisher’s 1933 Betty Boop in Snow White, with Betty Boop starring as Snow White. This animated film was pretty bizarre and far from the familiar Snow White plot. However, it was very entertaining. There is one scene in the middle of the film that caught my eye, the scene of Koko the Clown singing and dancing. The animation in this scene looked a bit different from the rest of the film. Koko the Clown’s movement was oddly very smooth and looked very realistic. It was not until I researched it that I learned that this sequence looked very realistic because it was rotoscoped from actual footage of Cab Calloway, the voice of Koko, dancing.
