One of my favorite childhood animation series was Max Fleischer’s Color Classics, which ran from 1934 to 1941 and produced thirty-six shorts. One of my favorites was Somewhere in Dreamland (1936), which is about two young and hungry siblings who live in poverty but one night have a dream about “Dreamland”. Walking through the wondrous and surreal land of “Dreamland”, the siblings pass by trees that grow brand new clothing, a field that grows ice cream cones, long stretches of land filled with various massively sized desserts, a merry-go-round made of animal crackers that spin around a massive cake, and a popcorn field that shoots popcorn into the air.
