Haerbin ice festival

When we were talking about public art during the class, I was reminded of the Haerbin snow festival in China. Every January 5th there are be sculptures, houses, buildings, castles, even palaces made of snow and ice. Colorful lights shine through them during the night. People play in the huge frozen kingdom  and hold ice sculpture competition….

Beethoven’s wig

I run into this hilarious animation while looking for a catwalk song and a would like to share it.

Why Brexit happened — and what to do next | Alexander Betts

I’m so hesitate to still talk about the election and it’s not even art-related, but I really want to share this Ted talk. I watched it a few months ago but I feel that I relate to what he said even more today. It’s also interesting how many dislikes this talk got…it seems when someone try…

This land is mine

I’m taking an art history course this term and has just started to learn a little bit about all those conflicts in the  Israel/Palestine/Canaan region. This animation is well-executed, hilarious and cruel at the same time. I was never able to decide how much we shall fight for a culture/nation/religion/ideology. Without those we don’t know who we…

Harry Potter illustrated edition

I have always been a harry potter fan and was thrilled to see this illustrated edition on the market. There are a large number of illustrations created with various mediums, and all pages have some kind of textured background. The imagination involved in those illustrations is astonishing. Some of them are pleasing to look at…

Ostagram

Many people might already knew this, but I just heard about this website a few days ago and was amazed by the interesting effect two ordinary images can create. It seems like there are endless possibilities just one click away. Please check out if you haven’t already. https://ostagram.ru/static_pages/lenta?last_days=30&locale=en

Big fish begonia continued

I have finally watched Big fish begonia, an indie animation movie shown  in China this year. Well those reviewers were right, the story WAS lack of depth. Although I still like the art style and the atmosphere, and was thrilled by the beauty of Fujian Tulou, the story was meant for 12 years old. I…

The Hidden Art of Disney’s Golden Age

I have purchase another Disney art book. This one contains a lot of concept art and preliminary sketches of Disney’s early animations. Those sketches are very energetic and inspiring. And although not as highly rendered and today’s big titles, the character design is very elegant and pleasing. Or maybe it’s just me being nostalgic. I…

Left brain right brain

I came across this picture if left brain and right brain today. I think it’s really well designed and want to share it with everyone.

Big Fish and Bogonia

This indie animation was finally launched this summer after 12 years of waiting. However being in US I was not able to find a way to watch it. I happened to run into its beautiful music today and it has again brought tears to by eyes. Reviewers still debate about whether the story is meaningful enough, but I’m…

Chinese calligraphy

I have always been interested in learning Chinese calligraphy, but at the same time was quite scared by the amount of time and effort involved to be good at it. After a year of hesitation, I finally decided to give it a try without stressing out too much about how good I can get. I have…

The Art of Tangled

I have received my copy of ‘The Art of Tangled’ and I’m really excited about it. I like the way they animated Rapunzel’s hair and it’s quite interesting to see how they designed it in the first place. I have only watched the movie once a few years ago but I might re-watch it to…
